Yeah, I agree, it's not just סתם saying "Hello" to people, that's true.
I just started up the new Washington Heights blog, as I think it will be neat. And the YCT Chevre blog should hopefully be exciting, too.

ITLOTW,
1) For learning names, I usually make sure I concentrate on matching the face with name. I've heard if one uses the person's name three times in close succession, it can help significantly. It's not foolproof - I still forget people's names, but I'll be the first person to ask them if I forget and people are sometimes amused at that.
2)Mingling, that's a tough one, I've been thinking about blogging about mingling after shul, so stay posted.
3) I have no "listening tip" other than to genuinely listen and pay attention to others.Drew Kaplanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08969020134924433950noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14842658.post-1131329271333135052005-11-06T18:07:00.000-08:002005-11-06T18:07:00.000-08:00Hi Drew,1. albeit with mixes of speaking of the me...Hi Drew,

1. albeit with mixes of speaking of the metadiscourse within casual conversation, being sort of simple, along with the employment of other methods of discourse.

Please clarify for those naive ones among us who still think socializing is just about talking and listening. :)

2. a RIETS guy who I know complimented me on my welcoming abilities, saying that I would make a good rabbi.

From another RIETS guy ... a happy smile is a great start ... but just a start. Congregants can see through phonies in a second. I think your better qualifications are your sincerity and sensitivity, as well as your growing erudition.

3. BTW, nice pics of you socializing on your new .
